The Global Carbon Budget 2023 is published The Global Carbon Project is an international research project under the Future Earth research initiative on global sustainability, and a research partner of the World Climate Research Programme. It aims to develop a complete picture of the global carbon cycle, including its biophysical and human dimensions, as well as the interactions and feedbacks between them.

By Davide Faranda, LSCE-IPSL ClimaMeter offers a dynamic approach to contextualize and analyze weather extremes within a climate context. This framework provides both easily understandable immediate contextualization of extreme weather events as well as more in-depth technical analysis shortly after the events.

Philippe Ciais, CEA research director at the LSCE (CEA-CNRS-UVSQ), has been appointed member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2021. He is the only French researcher elected in 2021 among the 24 other new foreign members of this institution. A total of 65 scientists were elected this year, bringing the total number of members to 860, including 129 foreigners.

Climate change widespread, rapid, and intensifying – IPCC GENEVA, Aug 9 – Scientists are observing changes in the Earth’s climate in every region and across the whole climate system, according to the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report, released today.

A team of scientists from INRAE, CEA and the University of Oklahoma combined satellite observations of plant biomass and deforestation monitoring to study changes in carbon stocks in the Brazilian Amazon forest between 2010 and 2019.

  Global Carbon Budget: survey on strategic directions In the past 15 years the media impact of the annual Global Carbon Budget has increased significantly. However, as the narrative on the global emissions trajectory starts to change, and the demand for scrutiny of emissions reduction efforts increases, the role of the Global Carbon Budget may need to shift.

The Global Carbon Budget 2020 has been published Dec. 11 at GMT 1:00 a.m., with the publication of the ESSD paper from P. The 2019 Petrus Peregrinus Medal is awarded to Catherine Kissel for outstanding contributions in palaeomagnetism, applied to understanding the Earth’s magnetic field, palaeoclimate, palaeoceanography and the geodynamic evolution of the Mediterranean margins. "Catherine Kissel’s accomplishments span a broad spectrum of applications of palaeomagnetism and rock magnetism to studies in tectonophysics, geomagnetic field behavior, palaeoceanography and palaeoclimate.

  Following the decision of the panel at its 43rd Session to accept the invitation from the UNFCCC, at its 44th Session, the Panel approved the outline of Global Warming of 1.5 °C, an IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.

Recent results obtained by climatologists working at the Laboratory of Environmental and Climate Science (LSCE: CEA/CNRS/UVSQ, Paris-Saclay) explain the relations between periods of drought and CO2 exchange between vegetation and the air. These different phenomena have a significant impact on increased levels of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere.

An international group of researchers led by LSCE (CEA-CNRS-UVSQ) has published a thorough budget of methane sources and sinks* over the last decade in the Earth System Science Data journal, complemented by en editorial in Environmental Research Letters, both to be published on December 12 2016. These studies show that none of the scenarios of the 5th IPPC1 report correspond to the observed increase in methane concentrations.
