A look back at the Launch Day of the ANR EGOUT project

Wednesday 9 March saw the launch of the ANR ‘EGOUT’ project at the Académie du Climat in Paris. Several sessions were organised for exchanges between the scientific partners, the various departments of the City of Paris and organisations involved in wastewater management, and for dialogue between science and society and the general public.

The meeting began with a welcome from Colombe Brossel, Deputy Mayor of Paris responsible for clean public spaces, waste sorting and reduction, recycling and reuse, followed by an introduction from Pénélope Komitès, Deputy Mayor of Paris responsible for innovation, attractiveness, the Paris 2030 Forward View and resilience.

After an introduction to the day’s proceedings by Elisabeth Lehec (City of Paris), Jérémy Jacob (LSCE), the project leader, gave an overview of the project’s objectives, followed by section-by-section presentations by the scientific leaders.

Nada Caud (LSCE), co-responsible with Jérémy Jacob for the ‘co-ordination and communication’ workpackage, spoke about data and sample management and internal and external communication.

Catherine Carré (LADYSS), responsible for the ‘citizen participation’ workpackage, presented the various challenges and objectives of the participatory research project.

The temporal monitoring component was unveiled by Thomas Thiebault (METIS), who is in charge of workpackage 4. To round off the presentation session, Régis Moilleron (LEESU) outlined the objectives of the spatial mapping component, followed by Camille Asselin, who presented the initial results of her thesis carried out as part of the project.

The floor was then opened to all participants to express their expectations and their contribution to the project.

In the afternoon, workshops organised by workpackage enabled participants to exchange views with the scientific leaders and City of Paris staff, so as to influence the project’s strategy according to the wishes they expressed. These workshops led to proposals for action that will be implemented rapidly.

At the end of the day, Antoine Bastide, Anne Souyris’ Chief of Staff, and Jérémy Jacob reported on the conclusions of the workshops and gave a general conclusion.
