Julia Garagnon, Edwige Pons-Branchu, (LSCE) with colleagues from Edytem (UMR 5204), and the support of Lyon City Council and “Grand Lyon”.

Accompanied by colleagues from Lyon City Council and the Greater Lyon local authority, we explored underground galleries beneath Fourvière hill, right in the heart of the city of Lyon. We took samples of secondary carbonates (speleothems) in these galleries, some of which date back to the Roman period. These limestone deposits are evidence of the waters that governed their deposition.

These samples, preliminary analyses of which will be carried out over the coming months, will serve as the basis for a research project into the urban hydrological cycle over the historical period, and the temporal evolution of water quality in Lyon.
