Thursday, November 14, at 5:00pm , we’ll welcome Théo Tacail from Caltech, Boulder, CO, USA for a webinar on “Human biology and ecology in the light of stable isotopes of bioessential metals”.
The topic will be isotope metallomics for applications in anthropology, human biology and archaeology. The webinar will be given in English. The link to the webinar can be obtained from Christine Hatté or Jérémy Jacob

Abstract : Metals that are biologically essential to the organism, play fundamental roles in human nutrition and pathophysiology. However, studies of these metals are still restricted by their own blind spots, to the metal quantification only. Isotopic metallomics, based on the ability of natural stable isotopes to reflect food sources and changes in metabolisms, can help overcome these obstacles. Using the example of calcium isotopes in the study of dietary practices and bone health, I will show how analytical, experimental and numerical approaches can address previously inaccessible aspects of the biological and cultural evolution of human societies.
