The Beyond EPICA ice core was brought back to Europe in April 2025 and cut up during the summer of 2025 in Bremerhaven, with significant participation from members of the LSCE’s GLACIO team.
Analysis of the isotopes in the water and gases trapped in the air bubbles began at the end of August 2025, with initial results already available for dating the ice core and reconstructing temperature variations in Antarctica at depths between 2,400 and 2,507 m in the Beyond EPICA core, depth levels that are expected to contain ice between 700,000 and 1.5 million years old.

Participating members of the LSCE GLACIO team: Anna Klüssendorf, Emma Samin, Louisa Brückner, Léa Baubant, Bénédicte Minster, Elodie Brugère, Frédéric Prié, Thomas Combacal, Elise Fourré, Adrien Ooms, Amaëlle Landais
