Roberval Prize for a textbook on remote sensing, co-authored by a Professor of LSCE

The textbook “Principes de la télédétection, Applications à l’observation de la Terre et son climat” (editor Dunod) wins the Special Mention from the Higher Education Jury at the 38th edition of the Roberval Prize.
The co-authors are all lecturers at IPSL, including Hélène Brogniez, Professor at the University of Versailles St-Quentin-en-Yvelines, working in the SATINV team of LSCE: Hélène Chepfer (LMD, Professor at Sorbonne University), Laurence Picon (LMD, Professor Emeritus at Sorbonne University), Marine Bonazzola (LMD, Senior Lecturer at Sorbonne University), Marjolaine Chiriaco (DGRI / MESRI) and Solène Turquety (LATMOS, Professor at Sorbonne University).

Space-based remote sensing appeals to a wide and varied audience because it contributes to advancing knowledge about the Earth’s environment and climate. This book, written in French, presents the fundamental physical principles of remote sensing and describes their various applications to space-based observation of the Earth and its climate, in the form of thematic chapters.

The Roberval Prize is an international competition organised by the Centre for Scientific, Technical and Industrial Culture (CSTI) at the University of Technology of Compiègne and its partners. It recognises the remarkable work of communicators and authors who strive to make science and technology accessible to as many people as possible. This prize is part of an initiative to promote cultural diversity within the French-speaking world.
