An international working group involving two CEA teams has determined the quantity of methane released into the atmosphere in September 2022 by leaks from the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
Estimated at 465,000 tonnes, or 0.1% of annual anthropogenic emissions of this powerful greenhouse gas, this is the largest quantity of methane ever measured for a single transient event.
