LMC14 (ARTEMIS national instrument)

Presentation

The Laboratoire de Mesure du Carbone-14 (LMC-14) carries out carbon-14 measurements for the national scientific community. Five organisations – CEA, CNRS, IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement), IRSN (Institut de radioprotection et de sûreté nucléaire) and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication – have pooled their resources to equip the laboratory with preparation benches and a mass spectrometer coupled to the ARTEMIS accelerator. The platform has been in operation since 2003. It is responsible for the technical aspects of dating (physico-chemical preparation of samples and measurements) and for measuring samples from other preparation laboratories, such as the LSCE, IDES-Paris/Sud, Le Louvre, Claude Bernard/Lyon, etc.
