L’exposé sera l’occasion de revenir sur une étude de sociologie et d’histoire des sciences menée sur le cas de l’ice core science. Cette étude visait à restituer la dynamique de « la science des carottes de glace », entre manips de laboratoires et territoires polaires, de la guerre froide à la crise climatique, et à montrer comment elle a contribué à transformer la nature des pôles et les représentations du climat terrestre. Les sciences travaillent le monde social, et elles changent avec lui : le cas de cette spécialité en témoigne à nouveau.

The presentation will be an opportunity to return to a study of sociology and history of science carried out on the case of ice core science. This study aimed to restore the dynamics of « the science of ice cores », between experiments in laboratories and polar territories, from the Cold War to the climate crisis, and to show how it has contributed to transforming the nature of the poles and the representations of the earth’s climate. The sciences work on the social world, and they change with it: the case of this specialty bears witness to this once again.
